Robot Seventh Axis Carriage Plate — Rail Faces Flat to 0.01 mm
The positioning accuracy of a seventh axis floor rail depends on the parallelism and flatness of the two guideway mounting faces on the carriage plate. The larger the plate, the harder: mill one face, flip, mill the other, with stress relief and hard anodizing in between. We sequence two-face machining, stress relief and film thickness compensation into one undisturbed chain, holding 0.01 mm parallelism between the two rail faces.
Why Big Plates Are Hard: Three Unavoidable Hurdles
Carriage plates are usually 400-1500 mm aluminum plate, 15-40 mm thick, with guideways or racks mounted on both faces.
- Losing the datum on the flip — after the first face is milled and the part is flipped, setting on blocks lets parallelism drift with block accuracy. We machine a process boss or datum edge first, locate on it after flipping, and hold 0.01 mm.
- Machining Stress Release — removing surface material makes the plate warp. Rough machining, stress relief, semi-finishing then finishing gives two stress releases, so the part does not distort a week after delivery.
- Anodizing film thickness — 25-40 µm of hard anodizing changes rail mounting face height, so we pre-machine for film thickness or mask the faces, and no shims are needed at assembly.
- Long distance hole spacing — cumulative error along the rail mounting holes ±0.03 mm, verified by laser interferometer or long-stroke CMM sampling.

Production Process: 9 Operations
| 01 | Structure and Tolerance Chain Review Guideway model, mounting hole spacing, rack position and stroke verified; plate thickness, ribs and lifting hole positions confirmed. |
| 02 | Plate Receipt and Sawing 6061-T6 plate is received by heat number and ultrasonically sampled for internal defects; sawing leaves 5-8 mm allowance. |
| 03 | Rough mill both faces Top, bottom and four edges rough milled with 1.0 mm per side, datum edge and process boss machined. |
| 04 | First stress relief Low-temperature stress relief releases plate rolling and machining stress. |
| 05 | Semi-Finish Milling and Datum Establishment Both faces are semi-finish milled from the datum edge to establish the final datum, with parallelism trend monitored. |
| 06 | Second stress relief Second stress relief after semi-finishing stabilizes dimensions and prevents slow distortion after finishing. |
| 07 | Finish mill rail faces and hole pattern Both rail mounting faces finish milled to 0.01 mm flatness, rail holes, rack holes and locating pin holes drilled and reamed. |
| 08 | Hard anodizing Mounting faces masked, 25-40 µm hard anodizing; flatness and bore diameters re-checked afterwards. |
| 09 | Inspection and Packing CMM / laser interferometer for parallelism and hole spacing; individual wooden crate with moisture barrier film so long transit causes no damage. |

Custom Engineering
Floor rails differ in length, guideway brand and drive type, so the carriage plate is built to the machine interface.
- Length Customization — 400 mm to 1500 mm; beyond that the parts are spliced in sections with joint locating pins.
- Guideway matching — machined to HIWIN / THK / Rexroth hole patterns so the part bolts straight on.
- Drive Type — rack and pinion, ball screw or linear motor; mounting faces and clearance slots reserved for the chosen concept.
- Reinforced Structure — ribs or honeycomb pockets on the back balance stiffness and inertia.
Confidentiality and IP Protection
The drawings of a complete robot builder are often the core competitiveness of the next machine generation. We apply both physical and data isolation on a per-project basis.
- NDA First — mutual NDA and non-circumvention agreement signed before drawings are received.
- Isolated Secure Area — dedicated machines and staff, no photography and no phones inside the area.
- Not displayed — drawings, part photos and customer logos never enter sample cabinets, catalogs, the website or social media.
- Data Isolation — programs and models sit on an access-controlled server, destroyed at project end with a written record.
- Code-named — traveler cards and packaging labels use internal codes instead of customer part numbers.
Company Profile
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd.Founded in 2008, with a team of 90-102 staff, serving 200+ Customers, export share 50-60%, annual sales of USD 10-20 million, ISO 9001:2015 certified.
Structural parts for robots come one shape per part, and no hand fitting is allowed at assembly. We therefore keep 5-axis machining, stress relief, surface treatment and CMM inspection under one roof, so every part's geometric tolerance is closed internally instead of being sorted out on the customer's line.
