This guide tube support bracket is a compact machined body with a precision bored boss for the guide tube, a clamp slit with a tightening screw, and a mounting flange with counterbored holes and a dowel location. Unlike a flat plate, the bracket has to hold a bore true to the mounting face after the slit is cut, because the slit relaxes the bore and any error turns into tube misalignment on the machine. It is used to guide and steady rods, tubes and mandrels on automation stations, laser and dispensing heads, wire and fibre feed systems and small linear actuators.
The clamp slit is the step that ruins this part when it is done last without planning. Cutting the slit before the bore is finished, and finishing the bore after the slit, is what keeps the tube running true.
| Step | Operation and control point |
|---|---|
| 1. Blank preparation | 6061-T6 bar or plate cut oversize, faces squared, material certificate recorded against the job. |
| 2. Datum face and flange | Mounting face machined and used as the datum for everything else; flange thickness and face flatness held to 0.02mm. |
| 3. 5-axis body machining | L-shaped body, stepped locating face and boss outside diameter machined in one clamping with 3+2 axis indexing, so the boss axis and the flange face share one setup. |
| 4. Clamp slit cutting | Slit cut with a slitting saw to a controlled width, positioned so the clamp screw closes the boss evenly on the tube. |
| 5. Bore semi-finishing | Boss bore drilled and semi-finished, then the part is released from the clamp so slit relaxation happens before final boring. |
| 6. Bore finishing after slit | Bore bored and reamed to H7 in a soft-jaw setup referenced on the flange face, so bore-to-face perpendicularity is held after relaxation. |
| 7. Clamp screw hole | Cross hole drilled and tapped across the slit, thread depth controlled so the screw clamps without bottoming. |
| 8. Flange holes | Counterbored mounting holes and one reamed dowel hole machined, position +/-0.02mm from the bore axis. |
| 9. Deburr and clean | Slit edges broken, bore edges chamfered, part ultrasonic cleaned; no burr left inside the bore that would score the tube. |
| 10. Anodizing and verification | Black or clear anodizing with bore and flange face masked; CMM check of bore position and perpendicularity, plus a plug gauge check with the screw tightened. |
| Bore tolerance | H7, bored and reamed after slitting |
| Bore perpendicularity to flange face | 0.01mm |
| Bore position | +/-0.02mm from the dowel hole |
| Bore roundness after clamping | Within H7, verified with the screw tightened |
| Flange face flatness | 0.02mm |
| Flange thickness | +/-0.02mm |
| Clamp slit width | +/-0.02mm |
| Dowel hole | H7 reamed, position +/-0.02mm |
| Surface roughness | Bore Ra 0.8um, faces Ra 1.6um |
| General tolerance | +/-0.01mm critical, +/-0.05mm general |
Bore size is checked twice: once free and once with the clamp screw tightened to the specified torque, because a slit boss that is round when free can pinch oval when clamped. That second check is what the customer actually experiences when a tube is inserted.
The bracket is built around your tube and your mounting surface, so both ends of the part are open to change.
- Bore diameter from 3mm to 40mm, H7, H8 or a clearance fit depending on whether the tube slides or is clamped.
- Bracket geometry: L-shape, U-shape, single boss, twin boss for parallel tubes, offset boss, or a plain flange plate.
- Clamping: single clamp slit with screw, double slit, or a screw-clamp with a separate insert.
- Mounting: counterbored, countersunk or tapped holes, dowel location, slot for adjustment, or a dovetail for rail mounting.
- Materials: 6061-T6 for general use, 7075-T6 for higher stiffness, 304 / 316L stainless for washdown and chemical duty.
- Finishing: black or clear anodizing with bore masked, hard anodizing on clamping surfaces, bead blast, laser part marking.
- Prototype from 1 piece, with the same program and soft jaws kept for repeat orders.
Send the tube outside diameter with its tolerance, the mounting interface and the load the bracket carries, and our engineering team returns a bore fit recommendation plus a quote, usually within one to two working days.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has been a custom CNC machining supplier since 2008, operating from Dongguan, Guangdong, China. The facility runs 4-axis and 5-axis machining centers, turn-mill combined lathes and CNC lathes with about 100 employees, including dedicated CAM programming and quality teams. Over 200 customers are served in medical equipment, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision testing instruments, and 50-60 percent of output is exported. The company is ISO 9001:2015 certified, with annual sales in the USD 10-20 million range and in-house inspection on CMM and optical equipment. Brackets, clamp bodies and bored housings are routine work, sharing the same capability used for automation fixtures and fluid handling parts.
- Monthly capacity above 10,000 pieces for brackets and small housings, with reserved capacity for repeat programmes.
- Typical lead time: 3-7 days for prototypes, 7-14 days for 10-100 pieces, 14-30 days for mass production.
- Programs, soft jaws and the approved first article are archived against your part number, so repeat lots skip programming and fixture making.
- CMM and torque-checked bore data ship with every lot, so fit on the tube is confirmed before it reaches your line.
- Rush service and scheduled release shipping available for projects with a fixed line-side date.
- Export packaging: bore protected with a plug, individual bag, desiccant, master carton, palletized for LCL or FCL.
Guide tube and rod support on automation stations, laser and dispensing head tube mounts, wire and fibre feed guides, sensor and probe holders, small linear actuator end supports, medical device tube clamps, packaging machine rod guides, and custom non-standard tube support brackets built to customer drawings.
Why is the bore finished after the clamp slit is cut?
Cutting the slit releases residual stress and lets the boss relax, so a bore finished beforehand would come out oval or undersized once clamped. The slit is cut first, the part is released, and the bore is then bored and reamed to H7 in a soft-jaw setup referenced on the flange face.
Is the bore checked with the clamp screw tightened?
Yes. Bore size is checked free and again with the clamp screw tightened to the specified torque, and that is the condition the tube actually sees. If the clamped bore falls outside the fit you need, we adjust slit width or screw position before shipping.
Can you make a twin-boss or offset bracket?
Yes. Single or twin bosses for parallel tubes, offset bosses, L or U shapes, or a plain flange plate with a bore are all normal. Send the tube diameters, spacing and mounting interface and we confirm the bore fit and tool reach.
What tolerance do I need on the tube bore?
H7 for a clamped guide tube, H8 for a sliding guide, and a defined clearance fit when the tube must move freely. Send the tube outside diameter with its own tolerance and we recommend the bore fit rather than leaving it to convention.
How is repeat-order quality kept stable?
Programs, soft jaws and the approved first article are archived against your part number, and repeat lots are booked on reserved capacity above 10,000 pieces per month. Each lot ships with CMM and torque-checked bore data.
