Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features
Hollow Robot Wrist Joint — 1.8 mm Walls in 7075, Delivered as an Inertia Matched Pair

At the wrist, weight is not a cost problem — it is a control problem: every gram is inertia the actuator has to accelerate and stop. This CNC-machined wrist joint is produced from 7075-T6 aluminum with 1.8 mm thin walls, a hard-anodized wear band, and a matched-pair inertia check. Two housings are held within 1.5% of each other, so a left and right wrist behave identically on the same program.

Why 1.8 mm Walls Are a Process Problem, Not a Drawing Problem

A 1.8 mm wall is easy to draw and hard to keep. Clamp the part and it goes oval; take a heavy cut and it springs back after the fixture is released; anodize it and the bore shrinks by the film thickness. Any one of these puts the part outside 0.01 mm while every inspection sheet still reads green.

We machine these wrists with soft jaws and internal support at 0.3 MPa clamping, light radial cuts with a constant-engagement toolpath, and two stress-relief cycles — one after roughing, one after the cavity is opened. Bores are pre-sized for the anodizing film and re-checked after coating. Each pair is then weighed and inertia-checked, so the two halves of a wrist arrive matched rather than averaged.

  • Clamping control — soft jaws plus internal support at 0.3 MPa; no clamp marks and no ovality.
  • Two stress reliefs — roughing and cavity opening are separated by a relief cycle, so the wall stops moving.
  • Film compensation — bore pre-sized for 35–45 µm hard anodizing and verified after coating.
  • Pair matching — weight ±1.0 g and inertia within 1.5%, reported per pair.

Production Process: 9 Operations
  1. Inertia and stiffness review — payload and wrist acceleration confirmed; wall, rib and pocket layout agreed against the inertia target.
  2. Material verification — 7075-T6 plate received by heat number, ultrasonic check for lamination, 3.1 certificate.
  3. Rough machining — both faces and the cavity roughed with 0.6 mm allowance, symmetrical removal to keep the plate flat.
  4. First stress relief — low-temperature relief so the 1.8 mm wall does not bow after the cavity is opened.
  5. Semi-finish — pockets, ribs and bore boss semi-finished with light radial engagement; wall measured in process.
  6. Second stress relief — a second cycle before finishing, which is what keeps a thin wrist stable a week later.
  7. Finish machining — bore, seal face, mounting faces and bolt pattern finished in one clamping from one datum.
  8. Wear band treatment — hard anodizing 35–45 µm with the bore and seal face masked, then bore re-checked.
  9. Pair matching and verification — weight and inertia measured per pair; CMM report and FAI shipped with the parts.

Custom Engineering

Wrist geometry follows the actuator and the tool flange, so the wall, the bore and the pockets are always specific to one design. Send the wrist assembly and the payload data, and we return a DFM note on thin-wall risk, pocket layout for inertia, anodizing compensation and pair matching within 24 hours.

  • Wall and ribs — 1.5 mm to 4.0 mm, ribbed or open, agreed zone by zone.
  • Bore and flange — H7 bore size, ISO 9409 flange pattern, dowel pins, tool changer interface.
  • Pockets — weight-relief pocket array positioned to move inertia without losing stiffness.
  • Material — 7075-T6 for inertia-critical wrists, 6061-T6 for cost, TC4 for impact.
  • Matching — supplied as matched pairs, with left- and right-hand versions machined on mirrored programs.

Confidentiality and IP Protection

Wrist geometry gives away the payload, the tool interface and often the end-effector design. It stays inside the project.

  • NDA before drawings — mutual NDA and non-circumvention signed before files are exchanged.
  • Isolated area — access-controlled cell, dedicated machines, no phones or photography.
  • Codified production — internal codes on travelers and labels instead of your part numbers.
  • Data control — programs and models per project on a permission server, destroyed on request with a record.
  • No leakage — no drawings, part photos or logos in samples, catalogs, the website or social media.

Company Profile

Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd. — founded in 2008, 90–102 staff, ISO 9001:2015 certified, annual sales USD 10–20 million, export share 50–60%, with customers in Europe, North America, Japan and Southeast Asia.

Thin-wall work depends on having stress relief, anodizing and metrology under the same roof, and that is how this factory is set up: 5-axis and 4-axis machining centers, turn-mill centers, surface grinders, wire EDM, CMM, vision metrology and in-house anodizing with masking. About 12,000 aluminum parts leave the plant each month.
