Mini Sensor Mounting Plate with Precision Slots and Counterbored Holes for CNC Machined Sensor Mounting Bracket Assemblies
Mini Sensor Mounting Plate
,Precision Slot Aluminum Plate
,Counterbored Mini Plate
This mini sensor mounting plate is machined from 6061-T6 plate at roughly 90mm long and 4mm thick, carrying a row of narrow milled slots, four counterbored mounting holes, a stepped window recess, two dowel pin holes and a shallow pocket on the underside for clearance. Small plates at this thickness are the least forgiving parts in a shop: the ratio of machined area to remaining wall is high, so the plate wants to bow, and a bowed plate reads as a bad hole position on the customer line even when the hole itself is correct. The process below is built around that single problem.
Thin plate work is won or lost in the clamping and in the order of operations, so the sequence is fixed rather than left to the operator.
| Step | Operation and Control Point |
|---|---|
| 1. Plate selection and stress check | 6061-T6 plate cut oversize, thickness measured at nine points; pre-flattened where the thickness tolerance is loose. |
| 2. Soft jaw clamping | Plate held on soft jaws machined to the plate outline so clamping force is spread and no witness marks are left on the visible face. |
| 3. Face and outline machining | Top face and the outer profile cut in one clamping; the profile cut is done last in the sequence to avoid relieving stress before the pockets. |
| 4. Slot milling | Narrow slots cut with small end mills at light radial engagement, slot width 2mm and above, width tolerance +/-0.02mm, break-through slots clearly distinguished from blind slots. |
| 5. Window recess and underside pocket | Stepped recess machined with step depth +/-0.02mm; underside pocket machined after flipping onto a dedicated support plate so the part stays flat during the second setup. |
| 6. Counterbored holes | Mounting holes drilled, counterbored and reamed where specified; counterbore concentricity 0.05mm and depth 0.05mm, so screw heads sit flush. |
| 7. Dowel holes | Dowel pin holes reamed to H7, position +/-0.01mm from the plate datum, checked with plug gauges. |
| 8. Deburring and edge break | All slot edges broken to 0.1-0.2mm; no burr left inside the counterbores where it would lift a screw head. |
| 9. Flatness check before finishing | Plate checked on a granite surface plate; anything above 0.03mm flatness is re-trued before anodizing rather than shipped. |
| 10. Anodizing and final inspection | Clear or black anodizing with contact faces masked where specified; CMM check of slot and hole positions plus flatness report with each lot. |
| Slot width | +/-0.02mm |
|---|---|
| Slot position | +/-0.02mm |
| Hole and dowel position | +/-0.01mm from datum |
| Dowel hole | H7 reamed |
| Counterbore concentricity | 0.05mm, depth +/-0.05mm |
| Step and recess depth | +/-0.02mm |
| Plate flatness | 0.03mm over the plate, 0.02mm achievable on request |
| Thickness | +/-0.02mm |
| Edge break | 0.1-0.2mm, uniform on all visible edges |
| Surface roughness | Ra 0.8um on machined faces |
Flatness is checked before anodizing and again after, because anodizing builds 10-15um on each face and can pull a thin plate slightly. Plates that fail the flatness check are re-trued rather than pushed through, which is what keeps the hole position honest at assembly.
These plates are almost always part-specific, so the layout, thickness and features follow your assembly.
- Plate sizes from 30 x 30mm to 250 x 150mm, thickness 2-12mm.
- Feature set: through slots, blind slots, stepped recesses, window openings, pockets, ribs, lightening cutouts.
- Hole patterns: counterbored, countersunk, tapped, reamed dowel holes, mixed patterns on one plate.
- Materials: 6061-T6 for general use, 5052 for formability and corrosion, 7075-T6 for stiffness, 304 or 316L stainless where the plate is a structural cover.
- Finishing: clear or black anodizing, hard anodizing on wear faces, bead blast, laser marking of part numbers, masked contact faces.
- Assembly support: tolerance stack review, mating part fit check with a sample, first article report.
- Prototype from 1 piece, with the same program kept for repeat orders.
Send a drawing or STEP model with the mating parts, and our engineering team returns a DFM note on minimum wall, slot width against thickness, and flatness expectations, plus a quote, usually within one to two working days.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has manufactured custom CNC parts since 2008, based in Dongguan, Guangdong, China. The shop runs 4-axis and 5-axis machining centers, turn-mill combined lathes and CNC lathes with around 100 employees, including dedicated CAM programming and quality teams. More than 200 customers are served in medical equipment, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision testing instruments, and 50-60 percent of production is exported. The company is ISO 9001:2015 certified, with annual sales between USD 10 and 20 million and inspection carried out in house on CMM, granite plates and optical equipment. Thin plates, covers and small precision hardware are everyday work, using the same capability applied to optical and sensor housings.
- Monthly capacity above 10,000 pieces for small plates and covers, with reserved capacity for repeat programmes.
- Typical lead time: 3-7 days for prototypes, 7-14 days for 10-100 pieces, 14-30 days for mass production.
- Programs, soft jaws, support plates and the approved first article are archived against your part number, so repeat lots start without re-making fixtures.
- Flatness and CMM reports ship with every lot, keeping your incoming inspection short.
- Rush service and scheduled release shipping available for projects with a fixed line-side date.
- Export packaging: plates stacked in trays with interleaving, foam wrap, desiccant, master carton, palletized for LCL or FCL.
Sensor and detector mounting, camera and optical module retaining plates, PCB and FPC stiffeners, electronic device internal brackets, medical device covers, laser module mounts, robot end-effector small plates, and custom non-standard mini hardware parts built to customer drawings.
Soft jaws machined to the plate outline distribute clamping force, the profile is cut last so stress is not relieved before the pockets, and the flip operation uses a dedicated support plate. Flatness is then checked on a granite plate before anodizing, and anything above 0.03mm is re-trued instead of shipped.
Around 1mm with a depth up to three times the width, using small end mills at light radial engagement. Below that ratio the tool deflects and slot width drifts, so we flag it in the DFM review and propose an alternative such as a stepped slot or a change in plate thickness.
Yes. Slot layout, recess depths, counterbore pattern, dowel positions and plate outline are all part-specific. Send the drawing or STEP model with the mating part and we return a DFM note plus a quote in one to two working days.
Anodizing builds roughly 10-15um per surface, so bores, dowel holes and contact faces are masked where the fit matters. Plate flatness is checked after finishing as well, so the assembly sees the real geometry.
Programs, soft jaws, support plates and the approved first article are archived against your part number, and repeat lots are booked on reserved capacity above 10,000 pieces per month. Every lot ships with CMM and flatness data.
Send your drawing or STEP model together with the mating part, and our engineering team will return a DFM note on minimum wall, slot width and flatness together with a quotation, usually within one to two working days.
