316L Stainless Steel Hydraulic Manifold Block with Cross-Drilled Passages Rated to 400 Bar
Gun Drilled Cross Passage Block

,Stainless Steel Manifold Block
This hydraulic manifold block is machined from solid 316L stainless bar as a single body, with eight SAE O-ring boss ports on two faces, four cartridge valve cavities and intersecting gun-drilled cross passages that connect inside the block instead of through external piping. It is built for systems where the working pressure rules out an aluminium block and where the passage intersections have to be clean enough that a chip or a burr cannot migrate into a cartridge valve. Port layout, cavity sizes and passage diameters are produced to your schematic, and every block is pressure tested before it leaves the shop.
The sequence below is what makes a cross-drilled stainless block reliable. Deep holes in 316L are the hard part: heat builds at the drill tip, the hole wanders, and burrs at the intersections are hard to reach afterwards.
| Step | Operation and Control Point |
|---|---|
| 1. Material and traceability | 316L stainless bar or plate, solution annealed, mill certificate and heat number logged against your job; hardness checked for machinability consistency. |
| 2. Face and datum machining | Six faces milled square, mounting face and port face established as datums, flatness 0.02mm before any drilling starts. |
| 3. Gun drilling main passages | Cross passages drilled on a deep-hole cycle with through-coolant, straightness controlled to 0.1mm per 100mm; drilling order planned so chips exit the block. |
| 4. Intersection breakout and deburring | Passage intersections opened and mechanically deburred, then checked with a borescope; no sharp edge left facing the flow path. |
| 5. Cartridge cavity machining | Valve cavities bored and stepped in one clamping, cavity diameter and step depth held to 0.02mm so the cartridge seats and seals without shimming. |
| 6. Port threads and sealing faces | SAE O-ring boss ports milled and threaded on the same datum; spotface squareness 0.02mm and surface finish Ra 1.6µm for O-ring sealing. |
| 7. Cross-port alignment check | Passage continuity and alignment verified with gauge pins and air flow check before finishing, so a mis-drilled block is caught before anodizing or passivation. |
| 8. Cleaning and passivation | Ultrasonic cleaning of all passages, pickling and passivation, then dried and plugged; particle count on the cleaning bath recorded. |
| 9. Pressure and leak test | Hydrostatic test at 1.5 times rated pressure, hold time per your spec, with a test certificate per block. |
| 10. Final inspection | CMM check of port positions and cavity steps, thread gauges on every port, roughness check on sealing faces, documentation shipped with the lot. |
| Port position accuracy | ±0.02mm across faces, checked on CMM |
|---|---|
| Port thread | SAE J1926 / NPT / BSPP, gauged 100 percent |
| Passage diameter | ±0.05mm, straightness 0.1mm per 100mm |
| Cavity diameter and step depth | ±0.02mm |
| Sealing face flatness | 0.02mm, roughness Ra 1.6µm or better |
| Mounting face flatness and squareness | 0.02mm |
| General machining tolerance | ±0.01mm on critical features, ±0.05mm general |
| Pressure rating | Up to 400 bar working, tested at 1.5× |
| Internal cleanliness | Passages free of burrs and chips, verified by borescope and flushing |
Stainless work-hardens under the tool, so drilling parameters, coolant pressure and drill replacement intervals are fixed per passage size rather than left to operator judgement. That is what keeps passage straightness and thread quality repeatable between lots.
Manifolds are built from your hydraulic schematic, so the port map is the starting point rather than a constraint.

Send a schematic, a STEP model or a sample block and our engineering team returns a manufacturability note, the achievable pressure rating and a quote, normally within one to two working days.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has produced custom CNC machined parts since 2008 from Dongguan, Guangdong, China. The shop operates 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining centers, turn-mill combined lathes and CNC lathes with around 100 employees, including in-house programming and a dedicated quality department. More than 200 customers are served in medical equipment, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision testing instruments, and 50–60 percent of production is exported. The company is ISO 9001:2015 certified, with annual sales between USD 10 and 20 million and inspection carried out on CMM and optical measurement equipment. Hydraulic and pneumatic manifold blocks, deep-hole drilling and sealing face machining are established specialities, using the same capability applied to vacuum and fluid handling components.
- Monthly capacity above 10,000 pieces across the manifold family, with capacity held for repeat programmes.
- Typical lead time: 3–7 days for prototypes, 7–14 days for 10–100 pieces, 14–30 days for mass production.
- Programs, fixtures, drill schedules and the approved first article stay archived against your part number, so repeat lots skip programming.
- Pressure test certificates and CMM reports accompany each lot, keeping incoming inspection short.
- Rush service and scheduled release shipping available for projects with a fixed line-side date.
- Export packaging: passages plugged, each block in a foam cradle, desiccant, master carton, palletized for LCL or FCL.
Hydraulic power units, injection moulding and die-cast machine manifolds, press and machine tool hydraulics, offshore and marine hydraulic systems, chemical and process fluid control, agricultural and construction equipment valve blocks, test rigs, and custom non-standard fluid distribution blocks built to customer schematics.
316L handles corrosive media and higher pressure with better fatigue behaviour at port threads, and it tolerates passivation for clean fluid systems. Where weight matters more than corrosion resistance, aluminium 6061-T6 or 7075-T6 with hard anodized passages is the better choice; we will tell you which fits your pressure and medium.
Intersections are opened in a planned drilling order so chips exit freely, then deburred mechanically through the passage, checked with a borescope and finally flushed during ultrasonic cleaning. Any block with a burr or chip trace in the passages is rejected before pressure testing.
Yes. Each block is hydrostatically tested at 1.5 times the rated working pressure with a defined hold time, and the test certificate with pressure, hold time and result ships with the lot. Rated working pressure is confirmed during the DFM review, typically up to 400 bar in 316L depending on wall thickness.
That is the standard case. Send a hydraulic schematic or STEP model with the port map, cavity types and thread standards, and we return a manufacturability review with achievable pressure rating and price in one to two working days. Prototypes run from one piece.
Programs, fixtures, drilling parameters and the approved first article are archived against your part number, and repeat lots are booked on reserved capacity above 10,000 pieces per month. Every lot ships with CMM data, thread gauge results and a pressure test certificate, so results do not drift between shipments.
Send your hydraulic schematic, STEP model or a sample manifold and our engineering team will return manufacturability feedback, pressure rating confirmation and a quotation, usually within one to two working days.
