Sensor L-Bracket That Locates on Dowel Pins Instead of Bolt Clearance

A sensor bracket bolted through clearance holes has 0.2 mm of freedom, and that freedom becomes boresight error once the payload is calibrated. This cnc machining parts L-bracket locates on two H7 dowel pins at 0.005 mm and uses the bolts only to clamp — squareness 0.01 mm, pin pattern position ±0.01 mm, mirror face Ra 0.4 for a repeatable sensor seat.

Why Boresight Drifts After a Bracket Swap

Two brackets from the same drawing can give different boresight if the sensor is located by bolt clearance. The bolts clamp, but nothing decides where the sensor sits, so it sits wherever the fit allows — up to 0.2 mm at M3 clearance. Recalibrating after every swap is the usual workaround.

This bracket locates on two H7 dowel pins at 0.005 mm, with the pin pattern positioned to ±0.01 mm relative to the mounting face, so a replaced bracket returns the sensor to the same place. Squareness is held to 0.01 mm and the sensor face is mirror finished to Ra 0.4, so the seat is flat enough that torque does not bend the sensor housing.

  • Pins decide position — H7 Ø3 at 0.005 mm, bolts only clamp.
  • Repeatable swaps — pin pattern ±0.01 mm, so a replacement bracket needs no recalibration.
  • Squareness 0.01 mm — the sensor axis does not tilt when the bracket is bolted down.
  • Flat seat — mirror face Ra 0.4 and 0.01 mm flatness, no stress built in by the fasteners.

Production Process: 9 Operations

  1. Interface review — sensor footprint, pin pattern, fastener torque and boresight tolerance confirmed before machining.
  2. Material verification — 7075-T6 received by heat number with ultrasonic check and 3.1 certificate.
  3. Rough machining — L-body and gusset roughed from solid with 0.6 mm allowance, symmetric removal.
  4. First stress relief — low-temperature relief so the 6 mm body does not twist after the gusset is opened.
  5. Semi-finish — both faces and the pin bosses semi-finished with light radial engagement.
  6. Second stress relief — a second cycle before the faces are finished, holding squareness.
  7. Finish and dowel holes — mounting face and sensor face finished square to 0.01 mm, pin holes reamed to H7 Ø3 in the same clamping.
  8. Hard anodizing — 25 µm with sensor face, dowel holes and gusset root masked.
  9. Verification — CMM on squareness, pin position and face flatness, pin fit trial, FAI shipped.

Custom Engineering

Sensor footprint, pin pattern, cable exit and mounting interface follow your payload, so the bracket is designed per project. Send the sensor drawing and the boresight requirement and we return a DFM note on pin pattern, squareness, face finish and masking within 24 hours.
  • Locating — dowel pins, a machined spigot, or a keyed slot for high-vibration mounts.
  • Adjustment — fixed, shimmed, or a slotted pattern with 0.5° tilt trim.
  • Materials — 7075-T6 for stiffness, 6061-T6 for cost, stainless for marine payloads.
  • Finish — mirror sensor face standard, matte exterior to avoid stray reflections.
  • Sampling — 1 pc with your sensor fitted for a swap-repeatability check.

Confidentiality and IP Protection

Motor geometry, stator stack and winding data are competitive information, so access is limited from the drawing stage onward.

  • NDA first — mutual NDA and non-circumvention signed before any file is exchanged.
  • Isolated area — dedicated machines and authorized staff, no phones or photography inside.
  • Codified routing — internal codes on travelers and labels instead of your part numbers.
  • Data control — per-project folders on a permission server, destroyed on request with a record.
  • No display — no drawings, part photos or logos in samples, catalogs, the website or social media.

Company Profile

Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd. — founded in 2008, 90-102 staff, ISO 9001:2015 certified, annual sales USD 10-20 million, export share 50-60%, serving customers in Europe, North America, Japan and Southeast Asia.

Machining, stress relief, anodizing and metrology run in one plant: 5-axis and 4-axis machining centers, turn-mill centers, surface grinders, wire EDM, CMM, 2.5D vision metrology and automated anodizing lines. About 12,000 aluminum parts ship each month, most of them small precision parts where the fixture and the boring sequence decide the result.

Delivery and Logistics

Two shifts 07:30-22:00, six days a week, with weekend shifts in peak season. Capacity is locked weekly for volume programs, so a rush order never displaces a scheduled batch.

  • Samples — 7-10 days, checked on your stator or bearing set before the batch is released.
  • Batch — 15-20 days from deposit and drawing approval.
  • Buffer stock — semi-finished stock for repeat models, cutting repeat lead time by about 30%.
  • Shipping — DHL/FedEx/UPS in 3-5 days for samples; air or sea for volume; EXW Dongguan, FOB Shenzhen or CIF.
  • Documents — FAI, 3.1 material certificate, CMM report and packing list with every shipment.
