Arm Pylon Machined Down to 0.6 mm Ribs Without Losing Stiffness
Every gram on a motor pylon is paid for twice: once in flight time and once in the inertia the flight controller has to fight. This cnc machining parts pylon is machined from a solid billet into a variable-wall shell with 0.6 mm ribs and open lightening pockets — 0.058 kg against 0.11 kg for the solid version, with rib thickness held to 0.01 mm and deflection verified under a 200 N load.
Why Lightened Parts Come Back Flexible
Taking mass out of a pylon is easy. Taking it out without turning the pylon into a spring is the actual job. The common failure is uniform pocketing: the same wall everywhere, so material is removed from the tension side and left on the neutral axis, and torsional stiffness drops faster than mass.
Here the wall map follows the load path — thicker where the bending moment peaks at the arm interface, thinner at the mid-span, with 0.6 mm ribs left in the pocket floors to stop the floor breathing. The finished part is loaded to 200 N on a fixture and deflection is compared against your limit before the batch is released.
- Wall where the moment is — 3.0 mm at the root, 1.6 mm at mid-span.
- Ribs in the pocket floors — 0.6 mm, so thin floors do not drum under vibration.
- Verified stiffness — 200 N load test with deflection recorded per batch.
- Mass held to ±2.0 g — matched pylons, so left and right respond alike.

Production Process: 9 Operations
- Load path review — arm interface, motor load, bending moment and deflection limit agreed before pocketing is programmed.
- Material verification — 7075-T6 billet received by heat number with ultrasonic check and 3.1 certificate.
- Rough machining — outer contour and pocket envelopes roughed with 0.8 mm allowance, balanced removal.
- First stress relief — low-temperature relief so the thin shell does not distort when pockets are opened.
- Semi-finish — contoured blends and mounting faces semi-finished with light radial engagement.
- Second stress relief — a second cycle before the ribs are taken to final thickness.
- Pocket and rib finishing — pockets finished to depth ±0.1 mm, ribs to 0.6 mm ±0.03 mm, floor radii cut in the same program.
- Hard anodizing — 25 µm with motor pad, bore and mating faces masked.
- Stiffness verification — CMM on rib thickness and wall, 200 N deflection test, mass check, FAI shipped.

Custom Engineering
- Stiffness target — we machine to a deflection limit, then verify it on the fixture.
- Pocket patterns — open pockets, closed pockets with ribs, or a lattice floor.
- Interfaces — tube clamp, bolted flange, or bonded insert for carbon arms.
- Material — 7075-T6 for stiffness, 6061-T6 for cost, magnesium on request.
- Sampling — 1 pc loaded on your rig before the batch is released.
Confidentiality and IP Protection
Motor geometry, stator stack and winding data are competitive information, so access is limited from the drawing stage onward.
- NDA first — mutual NDA and non-circumvention signed before any file is exchanged.
- Isolated area — dedicated machines and authorized staff, no phones or photography inside.
- Codified routing — internal codes on travelers and labels instead of your part numbers.
- Data control — per-project folders on a permission server, destroyed on request with a record.
- No display — no drawings, part photos or logos in samples, catalogs, the website or social media.
Company Profile
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd. — founded in 2008, 90-102 staff, ISO 9001:2015 certified, annual sales USD 10-20 million, export share 50-60%, serving customers in Europe, North America, Japan and Southeast Asia.
Machining, stress relief, anodizing and metrology run in one plant: 5-axis and 4-axis machining centers, turn-mill centers, surface grinders, wire EDM, CMM, 2.5D vision metrology and automated anodizing lines. About 12,000 aluminum parts ship each month, most of them small precision parts where the fixture and the boring sequence decide the result.

Delivery and Logistics
Two shifts 07:30-22:00, six days a week, with weekend shifts in peak season. Capacity is locked weekly for volume programs, so a rush order never displaces a scheduled batch.
- Samples — 7-10 days, checked on your stator or bearing set before the batch is released.
- Batch — 15-20 days from deposit and drawing approval.
- Buffer stock — semi-finished stock for repeat models, cutting repeat lead time by about 30%.
- Shipping — DHL/FedEx/UPS in 3-5 days for samples; air or sea for volume; EXW Dongguan, FOB Shenzhen or CIF.
- Documents — FAI, 3.1 material certificate, CMM report and packing list with every shipment.
