Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features

Slit after boring, measured clamped. 0.01 mm shaft runout · 0.2 mm slit without burrs · torque tested.

This sleeve connects an encoder or a small servo shaft to a lead screw with a flexible element cut into the wall. The helical slit lets the sleeve absorb small angular and axial misalignment without loading the encoder bearing, which is what fails first when a rigid coupling is used on a misaligned pair of shafts.

The slit is a spring, so its width and edge quality decide both the flexibility and the fatigue life. A 0.2 mm slit with a burr on the inner edge starts a crack within a few thousand cycles; the same slit, deburred and with a controlled radius at the ends, runs for years. We machine the slit after boring, then finish the bores, then measure runout with the clamp screws torqued to specification.

Production Route
  1. 1Drawing and misalignment review. We check bore sizes, slit type and width, clamp screw positions, torque requirement and the misalignment the customer needs to absorb, then quote within one working day.
  2. 2Material verification. 316L bar is checked against the mill certificate. 316L is preferred for slitted parts because the slit exposes a fresh surface that must resist corrosion in a washdown or coolant environment.
  3. 3Rough turning and boring. Outer diameter and both bores are roughed with 0.3 mm of stock, leaving material for the finishing passes that follow the slit.
  4. 4Slitting. The helical slit is milled with a small end mill on the turn-mill centre, following the helix in one continuous path so the width stays constant around the circumference.
  5. 5Slit edge treatment. Both edges of the slit are deburred and given a small radius, because a sharp edge at the slit root is where fatigue cracks begin.
  6. 6Finish boring after slitting. Bores are finished after the slit is cut, so the spring-back of the sleeve is already in the part and the bore is round when the clamp is tightened.
  7. 7Clamp screws and faces. Clamp screw holes are drilled and tapped in the same programme, faces are finished square to the bore, and edges are broken.
  8. 8Torque test and inspection. Runout is measured with the screws at specified torque, the part is torque tested to confirm the slit behaves as designed, then passivated and released with a first article report.

The Slit Is a Spring, Not a Saw Cut

Cutting a slot in a coupling sleeve looks like a simple milling job until the part has to survive a production line. Three things go wrong when the slit is treated as an afterthought. The width varies around the helix because the cutter deflects, which changes the stiffness from one side to the other. The inner edge keeps a burr that no deburring tool reaches, and that burr becomes the crack initiation point. And the bore is finished before slitting, so when the sleeve springs open the bore is no longer round and the shaft is clamped on two points.

Our sequence addresses all three: constant-width helical milling with a small cutter, an edge radius at both slit edges, and bore finishing after slitting. The torque test then confirms the assembly behaves as designed rather than only measuring the geometry.

Custom Options

Bore sizes, slit type and width, number of starts, clamp screw size and position, material, length and torsional stiffness are all built to your drawing. One piece is a normal order with no tooling charge and no setup fee, and the prototype goes through the same torque and runout checks as a batch. If the requested slit width would leave the sleeve too stiff for your misalignment, our engineer proposes an alternative before machining.

Confidentiality
  • NDA before files. Mutual non-disclosure is signed before drawings or samples are released.
  • No public reference. Confidential sleeves never appear in samples, catalogues, website photos or trade fairs.
  • Separated cell. Sensitive work runs with named operators and project-coded programmes.
  • Partner control. Passivation suppliers receive process specifications only.
Company Introduction

Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has produced turned and milled parts since 2008, operating turn-mill centres, CNC lathes with live tooling and four-axis and five-axis machining centres. The company employs 90 to 102 people, holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, serves more than 200 customers, exports 50 to 60 percent of output and records annual sales of USD 10 to 20 million.

Delivery Stability
  • Confirmed dates. Prototypes 4 to 7 working days, batch orders 12 to 20 working days after drawing approval.
  • Repeat orders skip setup. Programmes, slit cutters and torque settings stay on file.
  • Reserved machine time. Blanket orders are scheduled into fixed monthly slots.
  • Early warning. If material, slitting tools or passivation threaten the date, you hear it before it is missed.
  • Dispatch evidence. Photos, inspection report and packing list before shipment.

Packing

Each sleeve is bagged with desiccant, seated in a foam tray so the slit cannot be bent or filled with packing debris, then sealed in a moisture barrier bag. Trays fit a five-layer export carton marked with part number, quantity and batch code. Sea freight ships on fumigation-free plywood pallets; neutral cartons are available.

FAQ
How do you keep the slit width constant?

The helix is milled with a small end mill in one continuous path on the turn-mill centre, with the cutter compensated for deflection. Width is checked at four positions around the sleeve.

Is the bore measured before or after slitting?

After slitting, with the clamp screws at the specified torque, because that is the condition the shaft sees.

Can you tune the torsional stiffness?

Yes, within limits, by changing slit width, wall thickness or the number of starts. Send the torque and misalignment requirement and we will propose a geometry.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes, before files are released, and confidential parts are excluded from samples and photos.

What is the minimum order?

One piece, with no tooling charge and no setup fee.

Send the drawing with bore sizes, slit width and torque requirement, and we will reply with a DFM review, a quotation and a confirmed delivery date within one working day.
