Tip change without re-teaching · NDA first · 0.008 mm tip concentricity · 6H go / no-go threads · controlled taper seat
This contact tip holder adapter connects the contact tip to the torch neck and sets the tip position relative to the wire guide. On an automated cell, tip changes happen every shift, and the holder is what decides whether the new tip lands in the same place as the old one. We machine the internal thread, the taper seat and the through bore in one clamping and hold tip concentricity to 0.008 mm, so a replacement holder does not shift the contact point.
The holder is turned from CuCrZr, tellurium copper, brass or 304 stainless. Copper is used because it conducts heat away from the tip and keeps the tip cooler at high duty cycle; CuCrZr is aged so the thread does not deform after repeated tip changes. The taper seat is cut at 45 or 60 degrees within half a degree so the tip seats on a face, not on the thread crest.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd is a custom machining manufacturer established in 2008 in Dongguan, China. We operate four-axis and five-axis machining centres, turn-mill combined lathes, CNC lathes and milling machines, employ 90 to 102 people and work to an ISO 9001:2015 quality system. Over 200 customers have been served, 50 to 60 percent of output is exported, and annual sales sit between USD 10 million and 20 million. Our engineers work from customer drawings rather than a fixed catalogue, so a tip holder with a concentricity callout is standard work for us.
- Drawing and process review. We check thread callout, taper seat angle, bore depth, knurl requirement and the concentricity target, then issue a process plan and quotation within one working day.
- Material verification. Copper bar is checked against the mill certificate; CuCrZr is confirmed for aging condition so the finished thread holds its hardness.
- Cutting and facing. Bars are cut with facing allowance and both faces squared so the thread and seat start from true faces.
- Bore and seat turning. The through bore and taper seat are turned in one programme, with the seat angle cut by a profile tool and checked against the drawing.
- Internal threading. The thread is cut on the same machine with the bore as reference, then checked with go / no-go gauges on every piece.
- Knurling and deburring. The grip band is knurled where specified, thread starts are chamfered, and the bore is deburred from the inside.
- Plating or coating. Chromium plating, anti-seize coating or passivation is applied as specified, with the thread and seat masked where the fit must not change.
- Inspection and packing. Thread gauges, CMM for seat angle and position, concentricity check on a mandrel, then tray packing with a first article report.

A contact tip runs hot, and the heat path is through the holder. Copper conducts that heat into the torch neck and keeps the tip below the temperature where the bore erodes. The trade-off is that pure copper threads deform after repeated tip changes, so we age CuCrZr to keep the thread hard while retaining most of the conductivity. For cells that change tips every shift, we also check thread and seat concentricity on a mandrel rather than sampling, because a holder that is 0.02 mm off will move the contact point and force a re-teach.
Every holder is built to your torch: thread size and type, seat angle, bore diameter, overall length, knurl pattern, material grade and plating. One piece is enough to start, with no tooling charge and no setup fee, and the prototype uses the same fixture and inspection plan as the batch. If a feature would add cost without improving function, our engineer sends a DFM note with a practical alternative and waits for written approval before production.
- NDA before drawings. A mutual non-disclosure agreement is signed before models, drawings or samples are released, covering geometry, volume, end use and customer identity.
- No portfolio use. Confidential holders never appear in samples, catalogues, website pages or trade fairs, and photographs require written release.
- Dedicated cell. Sensitive jobs run in a segregated area with named operators; programmes and fixtures are stored under a project code, not the customer name.
- Controlled partners. Plating suppliers receive the process specification only, never the assembly drawing or the welding application.
- Internal traceability. Batch records are kept for three years so a quality question can be answered without exposing the design.
- Confirmed dates. Prototypes in 3 to 7 working days, batch orders in 10 to 18 working days after drawing approval, written into the order confirmation.
- Fixed slots for repeat parts. Blanket orders reserve machine time, so the same holder arrives in the same week each month.
- No re-programming. Programmes, fixtures and gauge sets stay on file, removing setup time from the second order onward.
- Early risk notice. If material, plating or gauging threatens the date, you hear it before the date is missed, with a partial shipment option.
- Dispatch evidence. Photos, inspection report and packing list before shipment; tracking number on the day of dispatch.

Each holder is packed in a bubble bag, seated in a custom EPE cavity tray so threads and seats cannot rub, then sealed in a moisture barrier bag with desiccant. The tray fits a five-layer export carton printed with part number, quantity and batch code. Sea freight ships on fumigation-free plywood pallets; neutral cartons are available for customers selling under their own brand.
How is tip concentricity measured?
The holder is screwed onto a threaded mandrel and the seat is indicated with a dial test indicator; the total reading must stay within 0.008 mm. Critical cell applications are checked 100%.
Copper or CuCrZr?
Pure copper conducts heat best but the thread wears; CuCrZr keeps most of the conductivity with a thread that survives repeated tip changes, which is what automated cells need.
Will plating change the thread fit?
We mask the thread and seat where the fit must not change, or tap oversize before plating when the coating is specified on the thread.
Do you sign an NDA?
Yes, before files are released, and confidential parts are excluded from samples and photos by default.
What is the minimum order?
One piece, with no tooling charge and no setup fee.
Next step: Send the torch model, thread callout and tip change frequency, and we will reply with a DFM review, a quotation and a confirmed delivery date within one working day.
