Recess Bore Mounting Plate with Recess Depth 0.02mm and Hole Pattern Checked, Post-Coating Verified Mounting Plate
Recess Bore Plate Turning
,Mounting Plate Hole Pattern
,Anodised Plate 0.02mm Depth
A mounting plate with several circular recesses looks like a turning job with a few holes added. In service, each recess holds a lens, a boss or a bearing seat, and each one is judged against the face it sits in — a bore 0.03 mm deep measured from the wrong face will not seat its part, even though the number in the programme is correct. Add a hole pattern that has to line up with a mating plate and the problem multiplies: bores that are individually good but positioned as a pattern by two separate setups will not assemble.
So we machine the plate from one datum face, cut every recess from the face it belongs to, and drill the hole pattern in the same setup family so position is a pattern property rather than a sum of individual tolerances. Anodising is then compensated: the coating grows into the bore and adds to the face, so recess diameters and depths are adjusted before coating and verified after it — not before.
| Step | Operation | Control Point |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stock and stress relief | 6061-T6 or 7075-T651 plate sawn oversize; thick or thin plates are stress relieved so a face does not bow after the recesses are cut. |
| 2 | Face and datum | Datum face finished first and marked as the reference; every subsequent depth is measured from this face, not from the opposite one. |
| 3 | Turn outside profile | Outside diameter or profile turned true to the datum so the plate sits concentric in its housing. |
| 4 | Recess bores | Each recess bored to depth from its own face with a flat-bottom tool; depth checked with a depth gauge and confirmed on the CMM. |
| 5 | Bolt and dowel holes | Holes drilled, reamed or tapped on the pitch pattern in the same setup family; position tolerance on the pattern is what is inspected. |
| 6 | Deburr and clean | All bore edges broken, chips cleared from blind recesses, plate cleaned before anodising so no residue is sealed under the coating. |
| 7 | Anodise with compensation | Recess and hole sizes adjusted for coating growth before anodising; masked areas respected; coating thickness recorded per batch. |
| 8 | Post-coating verification | Recess depth, diameter, pattern position and face flatness re-measured after coating — the customer receives post-coating numbers. |
| Feature | Held To | Verified By |
|---|---|---|
| Recess depth from its own face | ±0.02 mm | Depth gauge and CMM |
| Recess diameter (post-coating) | ±0.02 mm | Bore gauge, after anodising |
| Recess to outside profile concentricity | 0.01 mm | CMM |
| Hole position on pattern | ±0.02 mm true position | CMM, pattern fit |
| Hole to hole spacing | ±0.02 mm | CMM |
| Face flatness (free state) | 0.01 mm | CMM, part released |
| Plate thickness | ±0.02 mm | Micrometer, five points |
| Face parallelism | 0.01 mm | Micrometer plus CMM |
| Recess bottom flatness | 0.02 mm | CMM |
| Surface finish | Ra 1.6 µm machined, anodised per spec | Roughness tester before coating |
Post-coating measurement is the line that matters here, because anodising adds 10 to 25 microns per surface depending on the process and the alloy. A plate measured only before coating arrives with recesses that are tight and depths that are shallow — and the customer blames the drawing.

A mounting plate drawing carries a hole pattern, a recess depth and often the optical or sensor interface it serves — the pattern alone can describe an instrument. We sign a mutual NDA before any file is opened, in English or Chinese or on your own form, and return a countersigned copy before work starts. Access is limited to the project engineer, the lathe programmer and the cell supervisor, with the file in a restricted folder rather than the open shop network. The cell is camera free: no photographs for our catalogue or website, no customer part kept on display or reused as a sample, subcontracting only with your written approval, and at program close drawings and inspection data are deleted or returned with written confirmation.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has machined custom metal parts since 2008: 15+ years, 90 to 100 staff, 50–60% of output exported to North America and Europe, 200+ customers served, turnover in the RMB 10–20 million band. The plant runs CNC lathes, turn-mill combined centres with live tooling and sub-spindle, and 4-axis / 5-axis machining centres under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system, serving medical, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instrument programs. Turning, recess boring, pattern drilling, anodising coordination and CMM inspection are managed in our own plant in Dongguan.
Turned and milled plates from this plant ship into ten sectors. The list is what customers order, not a marketing wish-list.
| Industry | Typical Parts We Machine |
|---|---|
| Consumer electronics | Phone, tablet and laptop housings / heat spreaders / camera brackets / VR and AR headset structural parts / smart wearable enclosures |
| Automation and industrial equipment | Automation jigs and fixtures / module frames / linear guide blocks / motor mounts / sensor housings / conveyor line components |
| Semiconductor and vacuum | Vacuum chamber bodies / vacuum fittings / precision bases for semiconductor equipment / thermal and insulating parts / inspection tooling |
| Medical equipment | Surgical instrument bases / medical instrument housings / endoscope components / aesthetic device structural parts (medical grade aluminium and stainless) |
| Automotive | New energy motor housings / battery end plates / sensor brackets / lighting structural parts / retrofit components / hydraulic valve blocks |
| Aerospace and UAV | Aircraft structural parts / UAV frames / landing gear components / avionics instrument housings (lightweight precision parts) |
| Optics and photonics | Optical lens barrels / lens mounts / light source heat sinks / camera module brackets / inspection optical platforms |
| Telecom | 5G heat dissipation cavities / filter components / signal adapter structural parts / telecom equipment enclosures |
| Robotics | Robot arm joint parts / robot bases / reducer housings / AGV structural components |

All ten sectors run through the same plant and the same ISO 9001:2015 inspection discipline — only the material, finish and documentation package change.
- Prototype: 4–8 working days after drawing approval when anodising is included.
- Small batch 10–100 pcs: 8–15 working days.
- Repeat orders: released from archived program and fixture; recess depth and pattern position repeat to the same values.
- Capacity: 10,000 pieces per month across the plant.
- Visibility: a dated progress note with photos of your actual plates at recess boring, drilling and post-coating measurement.
- Shipping: faces protected with film, plates separated by foam, cartons marked fragile so a coated face arrives unmarked.
- Rush: anodising slots booked weekly; tell us the deadline and we confirm before the order.
After. Recess diameters and depths are adjusted for coating growth before anodising, then re-measured afterwards, and you receive the post-coating numbers. A plate that is only checked before coating arrives tight.
As a pattern on the CMM — true position against the datum and the best-fit relationship between holes — rather than as individual spacings. Two holes can each be within 0.02 mm of nominal and still be 0.04 mm apart from what the mating plate needs.
Not reliably without care, so thin plates are stress relieved, machined with balanced stock removal, and checked in the free state. If a design is marginal we say so before quoting rather than discovering it at inspection.
Yes, installed and checked for insertion depth and thread class, with the insert type stated in the quotation because it changes the drill size and the load rating.
One piece, no tooling charge. Price follows plate size, recess count and depth, pattern complexity, alloy and finish; a written quotation normally returns within 24 hours.
Yes, routinely, and a countersigned copy comes back before work starts. Only the engineer, programmer and supervisor see the file, no photographs leave the cell, and nothing about your plate appears in our catalogue or website.
Attach the model or drawing with the quantity, the coating specification and the deadline; you will get a quotation, a process route stating where coating compensation happens, and a firm delivery date. NDA paperwork can be handled in the same exchange.
