Deep Recess Cup Body and Thin Wall Cup with 0.01mm Wall Thickness, Ultrasonic Wall Verification and 0.01mm Bore to OD Runout
Deep Recess Cup Turning
,Thin Wall Boring Depth
,Wall Thickness 0.01mm
A deep recess cup body with the wall held to 0.01 mm at depth, with the bore measured where a dial cannot reach. Wall thickness is verified by ultrasonic mapping plus CMM section, and bore-to-OD runout at depth is held to 0.01 mm — measured inside the recess, not at the mouth.
- Wall thickness±0.01 mm, ultrasonic plus CMM section
- Bore to OD runout at depth0.01 mm, measured inside the recess
- Order size1 piece, prototype in 3–7 working days
- Materials6061 / 7075 aluminium, SS304 / 316L
- Bore capability4×D and deeper
- Quality systemISO 9001:2015, exporting since 2008
A cup body with a deep recess and a thin wall has two enemies, and neither shows up at the mouth. The first is chatter: a boring bar hanging four diameters deep in a 1.5 mm wall will ring, leaving a lobed bore that a two-point measurement reads as round. The second is wall thickness drift: the outside is turned first, then the bore is opened from the inside, and any offset between the two turns into an egg-shaped wall that looks fine at the opening and pinches near the bottom.
We attack both with sequence and support. The outside is semi-finished, the bore is roughed out while the wall is still thick enough not to deflect, the outside is finished, and only then is the bore finished with a damped boring bar at a modest depth of cut. Wall thickness is verified ultrasonically at several heights and a sample is sectioned on the first article, so the number on the report comes from inside the part rather than from the rim.
| Stage | Operation | Why it is controlled this way |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Stock selection | 6061, 7075, SS304 or 316L bar or tube; wall allowance chosen so the finished wall does not come from a heavily worked surface. |
| 2 | Rough outside and face | Outside roughed with stock left for the second pass; face squared to become the datum for depth measurements. |
| 3 | Rough bore | Bore roughed out while the wall is thick and stiff, removing most of the material before the wall becomes flexible. |
| 4 | Stress equalising pause | Where the wall is very thin, the part is allowed to settle before finishing, so movement happens between roughing and finishing rather than after delivery. |
| 5 | Finish outside | Outside diameter finished to size; at this point the wall is at its final stiffness for the bore operation. |
| 6 | Finish bore with damped bar | Bore finished with a damped boring bar, modest depth of cut, and a spring pass where the drawing demands it to remove deflection marks. |
| 7 | Bottom radius and feature | Bottom radius, internal groove and cross hole cut and verified for position from the face datum. |
| 8 | Wall and depth inspection | Ultrasonic wall mapping plus CMM section on the first article; bore runout measured inside the recess; report shipped. |
| Feature | Held to | Verified by |
|---|---|---|
| Wall thickness | ±0.01 mm | Ultrasonic mapping at 4 heights plus section |

| Bottom radius | Per drawing ±0.05 mm | Profile gauge and CMM |
| Bottom face flatness | 0.02 mm | CMM |

A deep cup drawing describes an internal volume, a bottom geometry and a wall — often the working chamber of a device, which is the part of the design a customer least wants circulated. We sign a mutual NDA before any file is opened, in English or Chinese or on your own form, and return a countersigned copy before work starts. Access is limited to the project engineer, the lathe programmer and the cell supervisor, with the file in a restricted folder rather than the open shop network. No photographs of customer parts are taken for our catalogue or website, customer parts are never displayed or reused as samples, subcontracting requires your written approval, and at program close files, sectioned samples and inspection data are deleted or returned with written confirmation.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has been machining custom parts since 2008: 15+ years, 90 to 100 staff, 50–60% exported to North America and Europe, 200+ customers served, turnover in the RMB 10–20 million band. The floor holds CNC lathes, turn-mill combined centres with live tooling and sub-spindle, and 4-axis / 5-axis machining centres under an ISO 9001:2015 system, producing parts for medical, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instrument programs. Deep bore turning, grooving, ultrasonic wall measurement and CMM inspection are in our own plant in Dongguan.
Deep recess and thin wall turned parts from this plant ship into ten industries. Each line is a category we machine regularly, with the parts customers actually order.
| Industry | Typical parts we machine |

| Consumer electronics | Phone, tablet and laptop housings / heat spreaders / camera brackets / VR and AR headset structural parts / smart wearable enclosures |
| Automation and industrial equipment | Automation jigs and fixtures / module frames / linear guide blocks / motor mounts / sensor housings / conveyor line components |
| Semiconductor and vacuum | Vacuum chamber bodies / vacuum fittings / precision bases for semiconductor equipment / thermal and insulating parts / inspection tooling |

All ten sectors run through the same plant and the same ISO 9001:2015 inspection discipline — only the material, finish and documentation package change.
- Prototype: 3–7 working days after drawing approval, including inspection.
- Small batch 10–100 pcs: 7–14 working days.
- Repeat orders: run from archived programs, boring bar and damped bar settings; wall and depth repeat to the same values.
- Capacity: 10,000 pieces per month across the plant.
- Visibility: a dated progress note with photographs of your actual parts at roughing, bore finishing and inspection.
- Shipping: parts nested in foam, bores protected, cartons marked so a thin wall cup is not crushed by stacking.
- Rush: overtime slots held weekly; tell us the deadline and we confirm before you order.
By roughing the bore while the wall is still thick, finishing the outside before the final bore pass, then using a damped boring bar with a modest depth of cut and a spring pass where needed. Chatter leaves a lobed bore that a two-point gauge reads as round, so the inspection includes a CMM roundness scan at depth rather than a diameter check at the rim.
Ultrasonic mapping at several heights on the part, plus a section cut on the first article of each batch. Measuring only at the opening is how a part that is 0.05 mm thin at the bottom gets shipped as good.
Yes, with the caveat that a 0.8 mm wall in aluminium behaves differently from the same wall in stainless, and the depth to diameter ratio governs what is realistic. We confirm the achievable wall for your specific geometry before quoting rather than accepting a number we cannot hold.
From bar where the bottom must be solid and integral, from tube where the wall is very thin and the bottom is a separate feature. The choice is stated in the quotation because it affects both price and the wall achievable at depth.
One piece, no tooling charge. Price follows material, depth to diameter ratio, wall thickness, bottom geometry and finish; a written quotation normally returns within 24 hours.
Yes. NDA signed and countersigned before the file is opened, access limited to the engineer, programmer and supervisor, no photographs of customer parts, sectioned samples returned or destroyed on request.
Attach the drawing or model with the quantity, the wall and depth requirement, and the deadline; you will get a quotation, a tooling and process plan for the depth to diameter ratio, and a firm delivery date. NDA paperwork can be dealt with in the same exchange.
