Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features
SS303 / 304 / 316L / 416 / 17-4PH Passivated per ASTM A967 ISO 9001:2015 Exporting since 2008

A stepped bushing fits into a housing at one diameter and carries a shaft, pin or bearing at another. Buyers usually quote the bore and the outside diameters, but the dimension that decides whether the assembly works is the wall between them — the concentricity of bore to outside diameter, and the accumulated height of the steps. Off by 0.02 mm on wall and the shaft runs tight on one side; off by 0.03 mm on a step stack and the bushing does not seat flush in the housing.

We turn the bore and every outside step in one operation wherever the geometry allows, then finish the second end on the sub-spindle so both ends share one axis. Each step diameter and height is measured separately on the CMM, the bore is checked with an air gauge, and the report that ships with the parts lists the actual numbers rather than a pass stamp.

Process Route
Step Operation Control Point
1 Bar selection SS303, 304, 316L, 416 or 17-4PH bar cut to length; mill certificate matched to the heat number before machining.
2 Face and rough turn Both faces squared and the outside roughed with stock left on every step, so the finishing pass removes an even amount.
3 Bore roughing Bore roughed through or to depth, leaving enough stock to correct any distortion from the outside turning.
4 Step finishing Each step diameter and its shoulder turned to size in one programme; shoulders square to the axis, corner radii per drawing.
5 Bore finishing Bore finished to size with a boring bar or reamer, then checked for roundness and taper along its length.
6 Second end and chamfers Part transferred on the sub-spindle; second face, chamfer and any groove machined on the same axis.
7 Deburr and passivate Bore edges broken so a shaft is not scored on entry; passivation per ASTM A967 with bores drained and dried.
8 Inspection and pack Step diameters and heights, bore size, concentricity and wall variation recorded; parts bagged with caps on the bore.
Precision Table
Feature Held To Verified By
Bore diameter ±0.01 mm Air gauge or bore micrometer, 100%
Bore to OD concentricity 0.01 mm CMM, one axis reference
Step outside diameter ±0.01 mm Micrometer, three positions per step
Step height and position ±0.02 mm CMM axial scan
Wall thickness variation ±0.015 mm CMM section, ultrasonic cross-check
Bore roundness / cylindricity 0.01 mm CMM roundness scan
Shoulder squareness 0.02 mm Granite plate plus indicator
Overall and step lengths ±0.05 mm Height gauge, 100%
Bore roughness Ra 0.8 µm (Ra 0.4 on request) Roughness tester
Passivation ASTM A967, no free iron Copper sulphate test on sample

Wall thickness is quoted as a checkable number because it is what the assembly feels. If your drawing only gives bore and outside diameters, we calculate the wall from them and report the measured variation, so a fitting tolerance issue shows up on paper before it shows up at assembly.

Confidentiality

Bushing drawings look simple but they carry bore fits, wall thicknesses and part numbers that identify a whole assembly. Before any file is opened we sign a mutual NDA — ours in English or Chinese, or your own form — and return a countersigned copy before work starts. Access is limited to the project engineer, the lathe programmer and the cell supervisor, with the file in a restricted folder rather than the open shop network. The cell is a camera-free area: no photographs, no video, no social posts, and no customer part kept on display or offered as a sample. Subcontracting requires your written approval, and at program close drawings and inspection data are deleted or returned with written confirmation.

The Plant Behind the Bushing

Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has machined custom metal parts since 2008 — 15+ years, 90 to 100 staff, 50–60% of output exported to North America and Europe, 200+ customers served, turnover in the RMB 10–20 million band. The plant runs CNC lathes, turn-mill combined centres with sub-spindle and live tooling, and 4-axis / 5-axis machining centres under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system, serving medical, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instrument programs. Turning, boring, grooving, passivation coordination and inspection happen in our own plant in Dongguan.

Ten Industries We Machine For

Precision turned components from this plant ship into ten sectors. The list is what customers actually order, not a marketing wish-list.

Industry Typical Parts We Machine
Consumer electronics Phone, tablet and laptop housings / heat spreaders / camera brackets / VR and AR headset structural parts / smart wearable enclosures
Automation and industrial equipment Automation jigs and fixtures / module frames / linear guide blocks / motor mounts / sensor housings / conveyor line components
Semiconductor and vacuum Vacuum chamber bodies / vacuum fittings / precision bases for semiconductor equipment / thermal and insulating parts / inspection tooling
Medical equipment Surgical instrument bases / medical instrument housings / endoscope components / aesthetic device structural parts (medical grade aluminium and stainless)
Automotive New energy motor housings / battery end plates / sensor brackets / lighting structural parts / retrofit components / hydraulic valve blocks
Aerospace and UAV Aircraft structural parts / UAV frames / landing gear components / avionics instrument housings (lightweight precision parts)
Optics and photonics Optical lens barrels / lens mounts / light source heat sinks / camera module brackets / inspection optical platforms
Telecom 5G heat dissipation cavities / filter components / signal adapter structural parts / telecom equipment enclosures
Robotics Robot arm joint parts / robot bases / reducer housings / AGV structural components
Instrumentation Test equipment housings / precision gauge bases / flow meter components / laboratory equipment parts

All ten sectors run through the same plant and the same ISO 9001:2015 inspection discipline — only the material, finish and documentation package change.

Delivery You Can Plan Around
  • Prototype: 3–7 working days after drawing approval including passivation and gauging.
  • Small batch 10–100 pcs: 7–14 working days.
  • Repeat orders: released from archived program, collets and boring tool list — bore and steps come off the same tools, so the fit repeats.
  • Capacity: 10,000 pieces per month across the plant.
  • Visibility: a dated progress note with photos of your actual parts at turning, boring and inspection.
  • Shipping: bores capped, parts oiled where required and bagged, foam-lined export carton, express or air and sea per your forwarder.
  • Rush: weekly overtime slots held for line-down cases — give us the deadline and we confirm before the order.
Buyer Questions
How do you hold 0.01 mm concentricity between bore and outside diameter?

The bore and the outside steps are cut in one set-up on one machine axis, and the second end is transferred on the sub-spindle rather than hand re-chucked. Concentricity is measured on the CMM against that single axis; where a design forces two operations, we hold the part on a bored soft jaw sized to the finished diameter so clamping does not introduce offset.

Will a thin wall distort when the bushing is pressed in?

A thin wall always deforms slightly under press fit, so we report the measured wall and, where the assembly is critical, machine the bore to the middle of your band so the interference takes it to the target. For walls under 1 mm we can also discuss a relieved outside diameter to reduce press load.

Can you match a bushing to the housing we already have?

Yes. Send the measured housing bore and the shaft size and we set the outside diameter and bore to suit — often specifying interference on the measured bore rather than the drawing nominal, which is usually the real cause of a loose or cracked fit.

How is the bore checked on a deep stepped bore?

With an air gauge or a bore micrometer at several depths and two directions, plus a CMM roundness scan on the first part of each batch. Step shoulders and internal grooves are checked with a profile gauge or a section cut on a sample part.

Minimum order and quotation speed?

One piece, no tooling charge. Price follows material, number of steps, wall thickness, tolerance band and finish; a written quotation normally returns within 24 hours of receiving the drawing or model.

Do you sign an NDA before receiving drawings?

Yes, routinely, and a countersigned copy comes back before work starts. Only the engineer, programmer and supervisor see the file, no photographs leave the cell, and nothing about your part appears in our catalogue or website.
