A multi-segment connector usually joins two different systems: a fine thread into an instrument body, a coarser thread into a hose or manifold, and a flange or shoulder that sets how deep each end engages. When the two threads are not coaxial, the part screws into the first port and then fights the second — the assembler blames the mating part, the seal leaks under pressure, and the thread flanks wear where the misalignment is taken up.
So the machining rule is simple: turn every diameter and cut every thread from one axis, in as few chuckings as the geometry allows, and gauge each thread separately. We turn on CNC lathes and turn-mill centres with a sub-spindle, so the second end is picked up on the same axis rather than re-chucked by hand. Coaxiality of all segments to the primary thread is measured on the CMM, and every threaded segment is run through go / no-go gauges before packing.
| Step | Operation | Control Point |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bar selection | 303, 304, 316L, 416 or 17-4PH bar cut to length; mill certificate traceable to the heat number. |
| 2 | Face and centre | Both ends faced and centred so the part is turned between centres or on a collet with a true axis. |
| 3 | First-side turning | Primary thread, its relief groove, the step diameters and the flange shoulder turned in one operation. |
| 4 | Sub-spindle transfer | Part picked up on the sub-spindle so the second end is machined on the same axis as the first, not on a hand re-chuck. |
| 5 | Second-side threads and steps | Remaining threads and stepped diameters turned; thread relief and undercut cut to the drawing before threading. |
| 6 | Live-tool features | Hex flats, cross holes, spanner flats and slots milled on the same machine, clocked to the datum. |
| 7 | Deburr and passivate | Thread starts chamfered, intersections deburred and borescope checked; passivation per ASTM A967, threads protected. |
| 8 | Gauging and inspection | Go / no-go on every threaded segment, CMM on coaxiality and step diameters, report shipped with the parts. |

Thread class is the number that decides whether the part assembles, so it is gauged rather than sampled. Where a customer specifies a tighter fit or a controlled root radius, the drawing governs and the tool and insert are chosen to suit — we do not force every thread into a house tolerance.

Fitting drawings carry thread standards, sealing geometry and often a customer part number that identifies a whole assembly, which is why we treat the file as confidential from first contact. A mutual NDA is signed before any drawing is opened — ours in English or Chinese, or your own form — and a countersigned copy goes back before work starts. Only the project engineer, the lathe programmer and the cell supervisor have access, with the file in a restricted folder rather than the open shop network. No photographs of customer parts are taken for our catalogue or website, customer parts are never displayed or reused as samples, subcontracting requires your written approval, and at program close files and inspection data are deleted or returned with written confirmation.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has been machining custom parts since 2008: 15+ years, 90 to 100 staff, 50–60% exported to North America and Europe, 200+ customers served, turnover in the RMB 10–20 million band. The floor holds CNC lathes, turn-mill combined centres with sub-spindle and live tooling, and 4-axis / 5-axis machining centres under an ISO 9001:2015 system, producing parts for medical, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instrument programs. Turning, threading, milling, passivation coordination and gauging are all in our own plant in Dongguan.
Precision turned fittings from this plant ship into ten sectors. The list is what customers order, not a marketing wish-list.
| Industry | Typical Parts We Machine |

| Consumer electronics | Phone, tablet and laptop housings / heat spreaders / camera brackets / VR and AR headset structural parts / smart wearable enclosures |
| Automation and industrial equipment | Automation jigs and fixtures / module frames / linear guide blocks / motor mounts / sensor housings / conveyor line components |
| Semiconductor and vacuum | Vacuum chamber bodies / vacuum fittings / precision bases for semiconductor equipment / thermal and insulating parts / inspection tooling |

All ten sectors run through the same plant and the same ISO 9001:2015 inspection discipline — only the material, finish and documentation package change.
- Prototype: 3–7 working days after drawing approval, including passivation and gauging.
- Small batch 10–100 pcs: 7–14 working days.
- Repeat orders: released from archived program, collets and thread tool list — threads come off the same tool, so the fit repeats.
- Capacity: 10,000 pieces per month across the plant.
- Visibility: a dated progress note with photos of your actual parts at turning, threading and gauging.
- Shipping: threads protected with caps or sleeves, individually bagged, foam-lined export carton, express or air and sea per your forwarder.
- Rush: weekly overtime slots held for line-down cases — give us the deadline and we confirm before the order.
How do you keep the second thread coaxial with the first?
The part is transferred to the sub-spindle rather than hand re-chucked, so both ends are machined on the same machine axis. The residual error is measured on the CMM at 0.01 mm, and where a design forces a second operation we use a ground collet on the primary thread itself — the thread becomes the datum rather than a guess.
Are threads gauged or sampled?
Every threaded segment on every part is run through go / no-go gauges before packing. On high-volume runs we gauge at the machine as parts come off and log the result, so a drifting tool is caught before a batch is finished rather than after.
What thread standards can you cut?
Metric coarse and fine, UN/UNC/UNF, NPT and NPTF, BSPP and BSPT, trapezoidal, left-hand and multi-start. Send the call-out exactly as it appears on your drawing — if the call-out is ambiguous we ask before cutting rather than choosing for you.
Can you supply sealing-critical parts with a pressure test?
Yes. Where the connector carries fluid, we can run a hydrostatic or air test at your specified pressure and ship the record with the parts, and we deburr and borescope the bore so no chip reaches the seal.
Minimum order and quotation speed?
One piece, no tooling charge. Price follows material, diameter, segment count, thread types, tolerance band and finish; a written quotation normally returns within 24 hours of receiving the drawing or model.
Do you sign an NDA before receiving drawings?
Yes, routinely, and a countersigned copy comes back before work starts. Only the engineer, programmer and supervisor see the file, no photographs leave the cell, and nothing about your fitting appears in our catalogue or website.
Attach the model or drawing with the quantity and the deadline, and you will get a quotation, a process route including thread gauging, and a firm delivery date. NDA paperwork can be handled in the same exchange.
