Radial Port Housing and Sensor Port Housing with 0.01mm Coaxiality Achieved by 5-Axis Milling for Radial Sensor Ports
Radial Port Housing
,Sensor Port Clocking 0.5 Degree
,Cross Port Deburring
A circular housing with radial ports carries sensors, cable glands or fluid fittings through the wall of the bore. The difficult part is not drilling the hole — it is the intersection. A burr left inside the bore scratches a piston, traps a seal or blocks a sensor tip, and a thread cut into a curved wall that is not square to the port axis will leak or cross-thread on assembly.
So the bore is finished first and the ports are machined afterwards with the port axis referenced to the bore datum. We machine a small flat or spot face on the curved surface before drilling, so the thread starts square; the intersection is deburred from inside the bore with a controlled tool rather than by hand at the mouth; and the port position and clocking angle are checked on the CMM after anodize, not before.

| Stage | Operation | Control Point |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bar or billet | 6061-T6 or stainless bar with mill certificate; bore allowance planned so the finish bore is cut after the outer profile. |
| 2 | First-op turning | Outer profile, flange and end faces turned on a bored soft jaw so the wall stays round. |
| 3 | Bore finishing | Bore bored and finished to size before any port is drilled; roundness and taper checked at this stage. |
| 4 | Spot faces and port holes | Spot face machined on the curved wall, then the port drilled with the axis referenced to the bore datum, so the thread starts on a square face. |
| 5 | Threading and intersection deburr | Threads cut and gauged; the bore-side intersection deburred with a controlled tool and inspected with a borescope or mirror. |
| 6 | Clocking check | All ports measured for height and angular position relative to one reference; the drawing datum is marked on the part. |
| 7 | Anodize with masking | Type II 10–15 µm external; bore and thread masked so seal fit and thread class survive coating. |
| 8 | Final inspection and pack | CMM report on port position, bore size, thread gauges, roundness; threads protected with plugs, bore capped. |
| Feature | Held To | Verified By |
|---|---|---|
| Bore diameter | ±0.01 mm | Air gauge or bore micrometer |

Port positions reveal how a sensor or a fluid circuit is arranged inside a product, which is often the commercially sensitive part of an instrument design. We sign a mutual NDA before opening any file — ours in English or Chinese, or your own form — and return a countersigned copy before work starts. Only the project engineer, the turn-mill programmer and the cell supervisor can access the file, which sits in a restricted folder rather than on the shop network. No photographs of customer parts are taken for our catalogue or website, customer parts are never displayed or reused as samples, subcontracting requires your written approval, and at program close files and inspection data are deleted or returned with written confirmation.
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has been machining custom parts since 2008: 15+ years, 90 to 100 staff, 50–60% exported to North America and Europe, 200+ customers served, turnover in the RMB 10–20 million band. The floor holds turn-mill combined centres, 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining centres and CNC lathes under an ISO 9001:2015 system, producing parts for medical, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instrument programs. Turning, cross-port milling, threading, anodize coordination and inspection are all in our own plant in Dongguan.
Housings with radial ports from this plant ship into ten industries. Each line is a category we machine regularly, with the parts customers actually order.

All ten sectors run through the same plant and the same ISO 9001:2015 inspection discipline — only the material, finish and documentation package change.
- Prototype: 3–7 working days after drawing approval, including anodize and thread gauging.
- Small batch 10–100 pcs: 7–14 working days.
- Repeat orders: run from archived programs, soft jaws and threading data; port heights and clocking angles repeat to the same values every time.
- Capacity: 10,000 pieces per month across the plant.
- Visibility: a dated progress note with photographs of your actual housings at boring, porting and inspection.
- Shipping: threads plugged, bore capped, parts bagged, foam-lined export carton, express or air and sea per your forwarder.
- Rush: overtime slots and an express anodize line held weekly; tell us the deadline and we confirm before you order.
The intersection is deburred with a controlled tool fed through the port after the bore is finished, then the bore is flushed and inspected with a borescope. On critical ports we inspect 100 percent and cap the bore before anodize so no grit is carried into the cavity.
A thread started directly on a cylindrical surface is not square, so the first threads are shallow on one side and the fitting leaks or cross-threads. A small spot face gives the tap a square start and a flat sealing land, which is what makes the port reliable at pressure.
Yes, and we prefer to. Send the drawing with the datum you actually assemble against — a keyway, a window pocket, a marked feature — and we mark that feature on the part and report the measured angle for each port, rather than clocking to an invisible axis.
Not on our parts: bore and threads are masked so the 6H thread class and the bore size are as machined, while the exterior gets the full 10–15 µm coating. Where the interior must be coated for chemical resistance, we say so and adjust the pre-coat size instead.
One piece, no tooling charge. Price follows bore size, number of ports, thread types, material and finish; a written quotation normally returns within 24 hours of receiving the drawing or model.
Yes. NDA signed and countersigned before the file is opened, access limited to the engineer, programmer and supervisor, no photographs of customer parts, nothing published without written permission.
Attach the drawing or model with the quantity and the deadline, and you will get a quotation, the process route including porting and anodize, and a firm delivery date. NDA paperwork can be dealt with in the same exchange.
