Robot Base Plate MIC-6 Cast Aluminum Double-Sided Machined 0.01mm Flatness Dowel Datum

Why Cast Plate Instead of Billet
A base plate fails in one of two ways: it is not flat when you receive it, or it stops being flat three weeks after installation. Rolled 6061 billet carries internal stress that relieves itself after machining, which shows up as a bowed flange and a gearbox that no longer sits square. This plate is cut from MIC-6 cast aluminum tooling plate, a continuously cast, stress-relieved material with stable grain structure, so the face stays where the CMM put it.
Both faces are machined. The top carries the bearing recess, dowel datum holes, counterbored mounting pattern and cable pass-through; the underside carries the leveling pad seats and clearance pockets. Because both sides are generated from the same datum programme with a flip-and-probe alignment, top-to-bottom parallelism is a machined result rather than a stack-up accident.
Production Route
Base plates are won or lost on flatness, so the route is built around keeping heat and clamping stress out of the final pass.
Precision Capability
| Feature | Held To | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| Plate face flatness | 0.01 mm full face | Granite plate scan, mapped report |
| Top to bottom parallelism | 0.015 mm | CMM, both faces |
| Dowel hole position | 0.012 mm | CMM, best-fit pattern |
| Dowel hole diameter | H7, honed | Pin gauge, 100% of holes |
| Bearing recess concentricity | 0.015 mm | CMM, datum bore |
| Recess squareness to face | 0.01 mm | CMM, datum face |
| Counterbore depth | 0.02 mm | Depth gauge, sampled |
| Face surface finish | Ra 0.4-0.8 µm | Roughness tester, per batch |
Flatness is reported as a map rather than a single number, so you can see where the plate sits inside tolerance before it reaches your assembly line. If a drawing requires tighter values than the route can repeat, we raise it at quotation instead of accepting a tolerance we cannot deliver.
Custom and Non-Standard Plates
Plates are made to your drawing. The working envelope below is what the machines and fixtures actually handle.
- Plate size 100-800 mm, thickness 10-120 mm, weight up to 60 kg
- Material options: MIC-6 cast tooling plate, 6061-T651, 6082-T6, 7075-T6, 5083, 304/316L stainless, 4140 steel
- Features: bearing recesses, dowel patterns, T-slot grids, counterbores, cable windows, leveling pad seats, oil grooves, lifting holes
- Pattern drilling to your hole table, or generated from the 3D model directly
- Matched sets with mating frames, jigs and fixture plates, machined from the same programme
- Input formats: STEP, IGES, X_T, STL, DXF, 2D drawing with GD&T, or a sample for scanning and rebuild
- Lapping and hand scraping available where a surface plate grade is specified
Confidentiality
- Mutual NDA signed before drawings, models, scans or samples are exchanged
- Files stored on a restricted local server, access limited to the assigned engineer and programmer
- Quotations, CMM sheets and shipping documents carry an internal project code rather than your product name
- No photo, sample or reference of your part released without written approval
- Fixtures, tooling and NC programs built for your job remain your property
- Files and programmes deleted at project close on request
The Plant Behind It
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has machined custom metal parts since 2008. The floor runs 4-axis and 5-axis machining centres, turn-mill combination lathes, CNC lathes and milling machines, with an ISO 9001:2015 quality system and an in-house CMM room with granite surface plates. More than 200 customers in medical equipment, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instruments are supplied from this site, and 50-60% of output is exported. Large-plate handling, crane capacity and stress control are part of the everyday process here, not an exception.

FAQ
Q: Why cast plate rather than 6061 billet?
A: Cast tooling plate is stress-relieved during manufacture, so it holds flatness after machining. Billet is stronger in tension but moves more when a large face is removed, which is why we default to cast plate for base and fixture work.
Q: Will you sign an NDA before I send our fixture drawings?
A: Yes. A mutual NDA is signed first, covering drawings, models, scans and samples. Use your form or ours, and the same terms apply to fixture and jig work.
Q: How flat can you hold on a 500 mm plate?
A: 0.01 mm across the face is standard for plates in that size range with the route above. Tighter values are possible with lapping, quoted after a capability review of your specific geometry.
Q: Can both faces be machined with features on each side?
A: Yes, that is the normal case. The second face is aligned by probing the finished features, so parallelism between faces is machined rather than inherited from the blank.
Q: What is the minimum order?
A: One piece. No tooling charge and no programming fee, so a single base plate for a prototype build is a normal order.
Q: How do you keep large plates from being damaged in transit?
A: Machined faces are protected with VCI film, parts are foam-cradled in export cartons, and plates are palletised with corner protection and edge boards for sea freight.
Q: What do you need to quote?
A: 2D drawing with tolerances, 3D model, quantity, material, treatment and target date. Quote and DFM comments come back within 24 hours.
