Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features

Why This Housing Is Machined as a Pair

A gearbox housing only performs if the cover and the body agree. Bored separately, the two halves each pass inspection and still deliver a misaligned gear train, because half a thousandth in each half adds up at the mesh. This housing is therefore machined as a matched set: body and cover are cut from the same 7075-T6 stock, dowelled, bolted together, and the bearing seats and shaft openings are bored in the assembled state. When you separate the halves for assembly, the alignment is already built in.

The envelope carries an internal reducer cavity, H7 bearing seats on two opposing walls, a sealed cover joint, an output shaft opening, a motor interface flange and a cable exit. All of it is generated from your model, not from a catalogue pattern.

How It Is Produced

The sequence below is written for a matched housing and cover set. Steps are removed for prototypes and kept for series work, but the order never changes: stress first, alignment last.

01 — Model and tolerance review. Cavity depth, wall thickness, seal groove width, bearing seat length and bolt spacing are checked against the machining route. We return a written DFM note with the fixture concept inside 24 hours.
02 — Matched blank set. Body and cover are cut from one 7075-T6 plate so grain direction and heat lot match, then stress-relieved and faced flat.
03 — Rough machining of cavity and flanges. Internal cavity, seal groove stock and mounting flanges are roughed with 0.5-0.8 mm finishing allowance on 3-axis and 4-axis operations.
04 — Relaxation before finish. The pair rests to release machining stress. This is where a gearbox housing normally moves, and skipping it is how centre distance drifts.
05 — Dowel holes and joint face. Joint faces are finished, dowel holes reamed and bolt holes drilled and tapped while both halves are still individually accessible.
06 — Assembly and line boring. Body and cover are dowelled and torqued together, then bearing seats, seal bores and shaft openings are bored in one continuous pass through both walls.
07 — 5-axis finishing of ports and interfaces. Motor flange, cable exit, sensor windows and oil ports are finished at multi-angle orientations without disturbing the bored alignment.
08 — In-process probing. Bore size, centre distance and squareness are probed on the machine, offsets applied, and the part released only when the probe report agrees with the drawing.
09 — Surface treatment. Black or clear anodize, hard anodize, chromate conversion or sandblast. Joint faces, bores and seal grooves are masked so fit is not affected by coating build-up.
10 — CMM, marking and pack. Assembled-state CMM report, first article report on the first batch, laser serial marking on request, then ultrasonic clean, VCI bag and foam-cradled carton.

Where a drawing asks for tighter values than the route above can repeat, we flag it during quotation and propose an alternative process rather than accept a tolerance we cannot hold batch after batch.

Confidentiality

Your design is handled as customer property from the first file to the last shipment.
  • Mutual NDA signed before drawings, models, scans or samples are exchanged
  • Files held on a restricted local server, access limited to the assigned engineer and programmer
  • Quotations, inspection sheets and shipping documents carry an internal project code, not your product name
  • No photo, sample or reference of your part is released without written approval
  • Fixtures, tooling and NC programs built for your job remain your property
  • Files and programs deleted at project close on your request

About the Factory

Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has produced custom machined components since 2008. Equipment includes 4-axis and 5-axis machining centres, turn-mill combination lathes, CNC lathes and milling machines, supported by an ISO 9001:2015 quality system and an in-house CMM room. The plant serves more than 200 customers in medical equipment, robotics, automotive, aerospace, automation, laser, LED, lithium battery and precision instruments, with 50-60% of output exported. Programming, engineering and inspection are under the same roof as the spindles, so a drawing question is answered while the job is still on the machine.

FAQ

Q: Can the housing and cover be ordered as a set?
A: Yes, and we recommend it. The pair is machined and bored together, marked with a matching serial, and shipped as one set so you never mix halves from different batches.

Q: Will you sign an NDA before drawings are sent?
A: A mutual NDA is signed first, covering drawings, 3D models, scans and physical samples. Use your document or ours.

Q: How is gear centre distance controlled?
A: Both bores are cut in one line-boring pass with the cover bolted and dowelled in place, then verified on the CMM in the assembled state. Verification happens on the joint, not on each half separately.

Q: What is the minimum order for a non-standard housing?
A: One piece. No tooling charge and no programming fee, so a single prototype for fit and function testing is a normal order.

Q: Can you match our existing surface treatment?
A: Send the specification or a sample. We work with clear anodize, black anodize, hard anodize 25-40 µm, chromate conversion and sandblast, with masking on bores, joint faces and seal grooves.

Q: How do you keep repeat orders on schedule?
A: Frozen program and fixture, capacity reserved per part number, two-machine allocation, buffer WIP on series orders, and a weekly progress report until the shipment leaves.

Q: What do you need for a quotation?
A: 2D drawing with tolerances, 3D model, quantity per batch, material, treatment and target date. Quote and DFM comments follow within 24 hours.
