Custom CNC Aluminum Handheld Device Housing and Blower Shell
Handheld housings live or die on three details: whether the surface curves flow without a visible step, whether the wall stays uniform after machining, and whether the internal ribs and boss positions line up with the PCB and motor that drop into them. We machine these 6061 aluminum handheld device housings and blower shells on 5-axis CNC machining centers, cutting inner and outer freeform surfaces in simultaneous motion, holding wall thickness to plus or minus 0.05mm and hole position to 0.01mm, then polishing or anodizing to the finish the product deserves.

| Bore and boss position | 0.01mm | CMM hole pattern report |
| Mating face flatness | 0.02mm | CMM and surface plate |
| Surface roughness before polish | Ra 0.8 | Roughness tester |
| Mirror polish option | Ra 0.05 achievable on visible faces | Visual standard and profilometer |
| Minimum wall | 1.0mm on aluminum | Section check |

Manufacturing Process
- Material cutting: aluminum bar or billet is sawed with generous allowance reserved for the sculpted surfaces.
- 5-axis roughing: inner and outer cavities are roughed out and the outer profile, freeform surfaces, internal ribs and clearance pockets are formed, removing most of the stock.
- Semi-finishing: mounting steps, tapped pilot holes and locating holes are machined, curved surfaces left with finishing allowance, and wall thickness brought close to uniform.
- 5-axis simultaneous finishing: the core operation - internal and external curved surfaces, radius transitions and internal locating seats are milled in simultaneous motion, then bores are fine bored and holes drilled and tapped. Surface flow, uniform wall and hole position are all decided here, and the multiple curved faces at compound angles cannot be produced in one pass on a 3-axis machine.
- Deburring and ultrasonic cleaning: burrs are removed from the cavity, hole edges and surface transitions, and aluminum chips and cutting oil are flushed out completely.
- Surface treatment: high gloss polishing, anodizing, sandblasting or brushing to raise appearance quality, wear resistance and corrosion protection.
- Inspection: CMM verifies surface profile, hole tolerance and wall thickness; a profilometer checks surface smoothness.
- Final check and packing: cosmetic inspection under controlled light, protective film and foam packing.
Why These Housings Are Difficult
- Freeform compound surfaces: the many irregular curved faces and radius transitions demand a carefully built 5-axis tool path; a poor path leaves witness lines that polishing cannot remove.
- Thin wall cavity: the shell chatters and springs under cutting load, so clamping points, support mandrels and cutting parameters are engineered before the first chip.
- Cosmetic standard: inner and outer surfaces must flow into each other, and tool marks are judged visually - many customers require a mirror polish on visible faces.
- Internal complexity: multiple card slots, reinforcing ribs and hole positions mean the hole pitch and assembly position accuracy must be held to 0.01mm while the outside is being sculpted.
Applications
High speed hair dryer and handheld hot air device shells, handheld beauty instruments and portable aesthetic device housings, handheld testing instruments and portable sensor enclosures, small handheld power tools and handheld atomiser structural parts. Also applied to portable medical devices, smart home handheld units and consumer electronic enclosures where the outer surface is part of the product identity.
Company Service
Dongguan Changxinda Precision Technology Co., Ltd has produced custom CNC machined parts since 2008, with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machining centers, turn-mill compound lathes, CNC lathes and milling machines, about 100 employees and more than 200 customers worldwide. Our service runs from 3D drawing breakdown and process planning to batch delivery, and every tool path mark on the part is a detail of precision manufacturing. Machining accuracy reaches plus or minus 0.01mm, and we take on all kinds of non-standard aluminum parts and complex cavity 5-axis or 3-axis machining. Industries served:

Prototype and Batch Supply
We support prototyping, small batch and large volume production in one plant. Prototype housings can start from a single piece so the cosmetic and assembly fit is proven before tooling investment, and repeat orders run on fixed fixtures with recorded parameters so the second batch matches the first. Prototype lead time is 7-10 days, batch production 15-25 days, and each confirmed order is booked into a fixed production slot with a written delivery date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you achieve a mirror polish on the curved faces?
Yes. Visible faces are machined to Ra 0.8 and then polished; a mirror finish is quoted after reviewing the surface and the anodizing colour.
How is wall thickness controlled on a sculpted shell?
The 3D model is offset to generate a uniform wall, then checked by ultrasonic gauge and section cut during first article before the batch runs.
What is the minimum order?
One piece for a prototype, with batch pricing from 100 pieces.
